Why Do Real Estate Agents Get Paid So Much Money to Sell My House?

Ever wonder why Realtors get paid "so much money" to list and sell your home?  This great promotional piece put out by diggsy.com helps break down just where all that money goes (give or take - time may be spent more in one area and less in another, but the total hours spent on listing and marketing your home is pretty accurate).  In the diagram below it shows a 2.5% commission, then states that commissions range from 2.5% - 4%.  Keep in mind this is just ONE SIDE of the commission.  Something the diagram neglects to point out is that when you are charged - for example - 5.6% - 6% commission to list and sell your home, typically HALF of that goes to the Buyer's Agent that brings the buyer who purchases your home.  What is left is the Listing Agent's commission, that is divided up as you can see below.
