Housing survey: Boulder wants to hear from people who live, work or study in the city about their housing choices. The survey is open until Feb. 18th. To read the Daily Camera's complete article please click here.To go straight to the survey please click here.As a Realtor that works with a lot of buyers, I often hear my clients say that they simply cannot afford to buy a single family home, in decent condition, within the City of Boulder. Believe me we try! We look and look, and for my middle income buyers it seems that they either have to give up finishes (i.e. buy a home that is very dated and / or needs a lot of work), or look somewhere outside the City of Boulder (or at the very least on the outskirts of Boulder). Boulder's Affordable Housing Program is not a viable option for many people as they simply do not qualify, and even if they did qualify many of them want a single family home that they can gain equity in vs. a condo (most of the affordable housing properties are condos) that has limited ability to gain equity. The majority of my clients that initially inquire about the "too good to be true" property they found on one of the popular online home search sites (aka a Boulder Affordable Housing property) decide to look elsewhere once the find out all that is required to purchase a property that is part of the affordable housing program (i.e. orientation, lottery style sale, limited equity, etc.)I hope the survey is successful, and I encourage you whether you are currently a homeowner or if you are still looking, to complete the survey and let the City of Boulder know what you think.
